2. A range of Fairtrade products is readily available in the area's shops and local cafes/catering establishments.
3. Fairtrade products are used by a number of local work places and community organisations.

Background
Frome became a Fairtrade Town in March 2003 during Fairtrade fortnight. A packed public meeting the previous May had demonstrated an obvious interest in Fairtrade issues from the people who lived and worked in the town. A steering group was set up and its members worked to achieve the goals set by the Fairtrade Foundation.
Since gaining the status, activity has continued to increase the number of shops, cafes and other businesses that use Fairtrade products in Frome. The group has promoted the Fairtrade message by the printing and selling of Fairtrade Frome Indian cotton shopping bags which are available from local shops.

Schools
Fairtrade Frome members have worked closely with local schools to raise awareness amongst the children in the community and have held assemblies and classes which have been well received by the schools. A member of the group has now developed a teaching game to play in small groups which will be produced for all the schools' use in Frome.
Fairtrade Fortnight
Fairtrade Fortnight 2004 saw the showing of the play 'Chocolate' which was about modern slave traders in cocoa farming, to mark the anniversary of becoming a Fairtrade Town. The production was followed by a discussion where many local people took part, demonstrating a good following of the Fairtrade scheme in the town.
Trade Justice
Fairtrade Frome is active in trade justice and some of its members attended the recent rally in Brighton. They were also highly visible back in June 2003 where they lobbied local MP David Heath and convinced him to take part in an 'Unfair Tug-of-war' in their Unfair Games event.
The group plan to keep campaigning through 2005 to ensure that the issues of trade justice and fairly traded goods are given a high profile in Frome.
